In 1999, Mackmyra was established as the sole whisky distillery in Sweden and has since become a highly regarded producer of premium single malts, despite its unconventional Scandinavian location. They offer a "peaty" style made with bog moss and juniper wood, as well as a fruitier, unpeated style. A second facility was opened in 2012 in Gävle, featuring a unique gravity-run design standing 37 meters high. With the capacity to rival many Scottish distilleries.
