Blair Atholl is located south of Pitlochry in the Vale of Atholl, Perthshire.
This area is often described as the "gateway to the Highlands" The foliage-covered buildings have occupied the site since 1798, making Blair Atholl one of Scotland's oldest distilleries.
PX can easily be overpowering to subtle distillates, but Blair Athol pairs perfectly with wood after a year's secondary maturation. The nose shows a pleasing balance of dried and fresh fruits, zesty green apples, pear drops, and melon chews showing a quality Highland style distillate. Sweeter notes of sticky toffee pudding and spiced crème caramel show off the woods own character. This chewy dram swirls round the palate throwing off more sweet, dried fruits, spice, ground coffee and plum jam. A wonderfully well-balanced dram, showing that not all PX reracks are a one-sided affair!
